Journalism lecturer Dana Chinn wrote in a Sept. 22 New York Times op-ed that the “device comes first” when it comes to buying digital content.
Chinn was one of four experts who wrote articles on whether consumers have become more willing to pay for content. She wrote that people will pay – either with money or through viewing ads – once they have purchased expensive devices such as a smart phone, iPad or Kindle.
“Today’s youth have grown up with millions of easily accessible songs, videos and books,” she wrote. “This glut has lowered prices on everything, of course, but it’s also led to a tremendous need for the devices and services that will store and organize people’s ever-expanding digital stashes.”
